Athens to Thessaloniki tolls in 2026: every plaza on the A1 and the total

Driving the A1 from Athens to Thessaloniki means passing eleven mainline toll plazas run by four different concessionaires. At 2026 prices a passenger car pays €36.70 in total and a motorcycle €25.55, before any Attiki Odos entry in Athens. Here is the sequence, plaza by plaza, with the operators' own figures.

GreeceTolls is an independent estimator and is not Nea Odos, Kentriki Odos, Aegean Motorway, Nea Egnatia Odos, or Nea Attiki Odos. Plaza prices were read from those operators' 2026 price pages on 3 September 2026; the totals are our arithmetic. Prices can change and lateral plazas add to the total if you leave the A1.

Four operators on one motorway

The A1 is not one concession. Leaving Athens you are on the A.Th.E. section run by Nea Odos as far as Skarfeia; Kentriki Odos runs the short stretch around Lamia to Raches; Aegean Motorway runs the long Maliakos–Kleidi section past Larissa and Katerini; and the last plaza before Thessaloniki, Malgara, belongs to Nea Egnatia Odos, the concessionaire that took over Egnatia Odos and its vertical axes on 31 December 2025. Each operator publishes its own price list, and the list prices are what you pay at every plaza whether you use cash, a card, or a transponder.

Plaza by plaza: 2026 prices

The table lists the frontal plazas in order northbound. Southbound you meet the same plazas in reverse. Each operator publishes one price per frontal plaza; none of the price pages distinguishes between directions. Category 1 is motorcycles, category 2 is cars and vans up to 2.20 metres high, category 3 is vehicles with two or three axles above 2.20 metres, and category 4 is vehicles with four or more axles.

If you start on Attiki Odos in Athens, add one flat entry fee: €1.25 for a motorcycle, €2.55 for a car, €6.30 for category 3, and €10.10 for category 4, which brings the car total to €39.25.

Lateral plazas: only if you leave the motorway

Besides the mainline plazas, each operator runs lateral stations on ramps at some interchanges. You pay them only if you exit or enter there. On the Nea Odos section the car prices are Kapandriti €2.35, Malakasa €1.65, Oinofyta €0.80, Thiva lateral €1.80, and Tragana lateral €3.65. Kentriki Odos charges Molos €0.40, Bralos/Thermopyles €0.70, Agia Marina €1.40, and Stylida €0.75. Aegean Motorway's lateral stations are Glyfa €3.00, Velestino €1.40, Mikro Monastiri €2.20, Kileler €2.80, Gyrtoni €0.80, Makrychori (Thessaly) €1.30, Evangelismos €1.40, Pyrgetos €2.00, Platamonas €0.80, and Leptokarya lateral €2.10. A stop for fuel or food inside a service area does not trigger a lateral plaza; leaving at an interchange does.

Paying along the way

All four operators accept cash and bank cards at staffed lanes; Aegean Motorway and Nea Odos also have automatic machines that take cash or card. Electronic lanes are for transponders only: Fast Pass on Nea Odos and Kentriki Odos, eway on Aegean, EgnatiaPass at Malgara, and any other Greek tag such as e-PASS or OLYMPIA PASS under the interoperability scheme, charged at list price. Aegean Motorway publishes identical prices for every payment method and offers frequent-user discounts only through its eway LOCAL programme at individual plazas.

Planning the budget

For a round trip by car with no detours, budget €73.40 in tolls at 2026 prices, or €78.50 if both legs start or end with an Attiki Odos entry. A motorcycle pays €51.10 for the round trip. Fuel is not included in these figures, and the distance of the drive is not published by the operators, so we do not quote one. Our Athens to Thessaloniki route page shows the same car figure with its source and verification date, and the calculator gives the other vehicle classes.
